College Football 27
Xbox Controls for College Football 27
College Football 27 brings the same pre-play control revolution to Xbox Series X|S that PlayStation 5 players receive—just with Xbox button names. LB replaces L1 for Custom Adjustments, LT opens the Global Coverage hub on defense and protection tools on offense, and the D-pad shed its old defensive line and linebacker shortcuts in favor of camera, Coach Vision, and Dynamic Subs. If you are an Xbox player transitioning from College Football 26, the learning curve is real but the payoff is speed: EA designed the new layout so advanced adjustments that once required 15–20 button presses now fire in one or two. Here is the full Xbox Series X|S control reference.

Xbox vs PS5 Button Equivalents
Every pre-play feature maps directly between platforms. Use this quick reference when watching PS5 tutorials or reading cross-platform guides:
- LB (Xbox) = L1 (PS5): Custom Adjustments
- LT (Xbox) = L2 (PS5): Global Coverage hub (defense) / Protection controls (offense)
- RB (Xbox) = R1 (PS5): Coverage Shells / QB Contain
- RT (Xbox) = R2 (PS5): Show PlayArt / Bluff PlayArt
- Y (Xbox) = Triangle (PS5): Individual Adjustments / Hot Routes
- X (Xbox) = Square (PS5): Audible / Double-team confirm in coverage hub

D-Pad Layout on Xbox
The D-pad reorganization is identical across consoles:
- D-Pad Up / Down: Toggle camera
- D-Pad Left: Coach Vision HUD
- D-Pad Right: Dynamic Subs
Last year, D-pad left and right contextually adjusted defensive linemen and linebackers—a layout EA acknowledged became confusing over time. College Football 27 moves DL adjustments to Right Stick Left and LB adjustments to Right Stick Right, keeping the D-pad dedicated to universal tools that work on offense and defense alike.
LB — Custom Adjustments on Xbox
Tap LB at the line of scrimmage to access your active Custom Adjustment packages. This is the single most important new muscle memory on Xbox: LB replaces the old Defensive Assist function from College Football 26's L1/LB role and becomes your macro trigger for both sides of the ball.
Build packages in Create and Share → Custom Adjustments. Save up to 20 per side, activate 10 per game, and name them by situation ("Stop Mesh," "QB Scramble," "Red Zone Fades"). Preset macros ship for players who skip custom creation.
Detailed workflow and game-planning advice: Custom Adjustments guide.
LT — Global Coverage Hub on Xbox
Hold LT on defense to open the Global Coverage Adjustment hub. All major coverage tools live here without entering separate menus:
- Press / back off coverage
- Inside / outside leverage
- Pass commit inside / outside
- Smart Zone behavior adjustments
- Deep Zone Focus and clear
- Per-receiver shading, double teams (select receiver, press X), and manual matchups
On offense, LT consolidates pass protection adjustments under one trigger—the same design philosophy as defense. EA's goal is layered functionality in a single hub rather than scattered HUDs.
Smart Zones, Plaster, Roll Coverage, and match checks are covered in depth on our defensive controls page.
