Custom Adjustments in College Football 27
Custom Adjustments is College Football 27's deepest strategy feature—a macro system that lets you save entire pre-snap packages and apply them in one or two button presses. Instead of manually setting leverage, coverage behavior, protection, hot routes, fronts, and per-player assignments every snap, you build answers in Create and Share, name them by situation, and fire them with L1 on PS5 or LB on Xbox at the line of scrimmage. EA calls it one of the most comprehensive pre-play tools the studio has shipped, with up to 20 saved packages per side and 10 active slots per game forcing real game-planning decisions. Whether you use preset macros or build custom systems, Custom Adjustments reward players who know football and want to play it faster.

Create and Share Workflow
All Custom Adjustment creation happens outside gameplay in the main menu:
- Navigate to Create and Share
- Select Custom Adjustments
- Choose Offense or Defense
- Pick a base formation or defensive look to start from
- Add adjustments: fronts, leverage, coverage behavior, protection, pressure looks, route concepts, hot routes, per-player assignments, stunts, and twists
- Name the package by situation ("Stop Trips Mesh," "QB Scramble Drill," "Red Zone Fade")
- Save and repeat—up to 20 packages per side
- Before each game, select up to 10 active adjustments per side to bring into that matchup
The 10-active limit means you cannot carry every package into every game. Scout your opponent in Dynasty or online and curate your active set like a real coordinator building a game plan.
In-Game Activation: L1 / LB
Two access points exist during gameplay:
Play Call Screen: Hold the corresponding play button. Custom Adjustments appear at the top of the menu above stunts and twists. Layer adjustments into your play selection before breaking the huddle.
Line of Scrimmacy: Tap L1 (PS5) or LB (Xbox) to open your active adjustment menu and apply a package instantly. What previously required 15–20 button presses now completes in one or two.

Preset Macros Out of the Box
EA ships preset Custom Adjustments for players who skip creation entirely. Defensive presets include:
- QB Scramble — Contain mobile quarterbacks
- Play Short Routes — Take away quick game
- No Deep Passes — Limit explosive vertical threats
- Defend Screen Pass — Screen answers built in
Offensive presets include Go Vertical, Slants, Mesh, Outs, Smart Routes, Comebacks, Double Moves, and Zigs. These are immediately accessible and serve as templates—study how EA built them, then customize for your playbook identity.
What You Can Build Into Packages
Nearly every pre-play tool in College Football 27 can be bundled into a Custom Adjustment:
- Defense: Fronts, leverage (press/back off, inside/outside), Smart Zone strategy, coverage behavior, pressure looks, per-player assignments, stunts, twists, Roll Coverage shading, Plaster triggers, match coverage checks
- Offense: Route concepts, hot routes, pass protection schemes, motion, formation shifts, personnel looks, play-action pressure answers
Combine Custom Adjustments with the Global Coverage hub (L2/LT) for snap-specific tweaks after applying your macro base. The hub handles one-off receiver doubles and Smart Zone changes; Custom Adjustments handle your repeatable systemic answers.
Balance Rules & Game Planning Tips
EA enforced authenticity limits on the system:
- After applying an adjustment, players must get set at the line before another adjustment can be applied—no infinite stacking while players are moving
- Custom Adjustments are not affected by Home Field Advantage—your saved packages work in hostile environments
- Name packages by the problem they solve, not the formation they start from
- Test every macro in Practice Mode before relying on it in Dynasty conference games or online ranked
- Rotate active sets weekly based on opponent tendencies—keep 3–4 universal packages and swap 6–7 matchup-specific ones
Community creators have already recreated historic and modern defensive schemes through the system—exactly what EA intended. For defensive-specific package ideas, pair this guide with our defensive controls page.
