Reading the Recruiting Board

Prestige Programs: High Ceiling, High Risk
Five-star recruits enter college with first-round Draft Projection expectations—32 five-star prospects mapped against 32 first-round NFL picks. Choosing Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, or Texas carries instant Legacy Score opportunity from rivalry wins, College Football Playoff exposure, and award visibility. The cost is depth-chart traffic. Upperclassmen on championship rosters do not vacate snaps politely.
Prestige paths work when your build is polished enough to win a camp battle early or when you accept a redshirt year to preserve fitness and stack practice reps. Coach Happiness still governs playing time; a backup who skips fitness blocks and loses Coach Trust may never escape the bench despite star rating. Scenarios and dilemmas off the field—quizzes, brand events, leadership choices—also affect whether your school renews strong annual bonuses.
Playing Time Programs: Development First
Group of Five schools, rebuilding Power Four programs, and teams with thin depth at your position offer the fastest path to freshman snaps. More snaps mean more stat volume for Heisman campaigns, faster Coach Trust, and clearer Tape Score-style proof for scouts. A three-star quarterback starting week one at a MAC program can climb Draft Projection dramatically with consecutive strong performances.
The tradeoff is national attention. Legacy Score still rewards championships and rivalry wins, but MAC dominance does not carry the same weight as SEC dominance without Transfer Portal escalation. Scheme Fit and Position Depth
Scheme matters as much as star count. Spread offenses feed wide receivers and dual-threat quarterbacks. Pro-style and 12-personnel programs elevate tight ends who block. Edge rushers thrive in odd-front pressure schemes; free safeties shine in split-safety defenses that test range. Check your projected role against the playbook identity you want to play on game day.
